Aronia berries are high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Aronia is of interest to scientists due to its deep purple, almost black stain that occurs high in phenolic compounds, especially anthocyanins. The total anthocyanins is 1480 mg per 100 g fresh berries and proanthocyanidins 664 mg per 100 g. Both values are the highest measured quantities in plants.


Analysis of anthocyanins in Aronii identified the following individual chemicals (occurring in plants): cyanidin-3-galactoside, epicatechin, caffeine acid, quercetin, delphinidin, petunidin, pelargonidin, peonidin and malvidin. All are from the group of flavonoids. They are phenolic antioxidants.


Wine from Black chokeberry is the result of fermentation of the fruit of this precious fruit.
